Elegant Ladies like Currier & Ives in round frames KB remembers

These ladies take me way back to when I was a child.  They were placed in my great grandmother’s dining room way up high.  But I admired them very much.  Now they come back into my life again- Thanks Mom.  They always reminded me of Louisa May Alcott’s novel, Little Women.  Click the link to see a summary of that classic book.  I would imagine Jo, the strong one with the chestnut hair as my favorite character pictured here.  Of course that idea is pretty ridiculous since the March family was very poor in the story and the clothes in the pictures are very rich.  But I was only in grade school then.  I’m torn between auctioning these ladies on eBay and keeping them around for inspiration.  If you like them you should check June Parrish Cookson at Ink Vanilla, her work is reminiscent and stunning.  Enjoy!

The Annette Green Perfume Exhibit FIDM Los Angeles

I just realized that some of the exhibits at FIDM in Los Angeles are shown on the FIDM website.  It's not like being there but what I found was a little bit of inspiration.  Here's the link.  Some of the on line exhibits are hard to navigate and the pictures are smaller than I would like but....there's great information here.  At least I get my Alumni newsletters to see what's coming next.  I borrowed this photo collage from the Annette Green on line gallery.  I enjoyed viewing the images and reading through the copy here.  I've heard people in the industry say you are nobody until you have your own fragrance- bah!  Don't we all?  You might want to look at the exhibits too. Next time in LA, make a plan to visit!

Appel and Frank Shopping Events, Great!

The Appel and Frank Shopping event I attended was at least a year ago.  It was so much fun!  It featured indie designers, local artists and treats!  I recommend checking out one of these special shopping nights or days.  I went to a ladies night in SF but since I'm on the mailing list I get reminders.  The next one is in Mill Valley. See the link.  The price of tickets includes a goodie bag filled with surprises.

Legion of Honor Annie Leibovitz Souvenirs

The exhibit was fascinating but crowded.  I'm glad we had the opportunity to view the Annie Leibovitz collection at San Francisco's Legion of Honor.  After walking through the galleries I picked up a few momentos in the shop.  It's amazing how striking, poignant and beautiful many of the photographs come across.  It was very entertaining on a Sunday afternoon.  Here's some of the postcards I purchased.

Bonbons Assortis and Bonbons les Framboises, KB enjoys!

Every since I was a child I've enjoyed these little French candies called Pastillines.  I like to keep them in my handbag from time to time. There are many varieties from the company called La Vie de La Vosgienne.  I found some larger quantities on Amazon.  Here's a link.  But I prefer to purchase them one at a time at the local sweet shop.  I feel more privileged to select one choice flavor at a time.  My all time favorite is the Bonbons les Framboises.  They taste lovely, raspberry, and they are shaped like teeny berries.  I also like the assorted fruits pictured below.  These are little round candies just sweet enough for me. I enjoy the packaging, the pretty artwork and the dainty little tins.  The tins are great for storage too.  I use them to store items such as safety pins, push pins, favorite quotes and fortune cookie sayings.  I hope you taste the bonbons soon.

Elegant jewelry designs and some April/May Festivals

Pictured below are some dainty button pins created by an artist named Nanine. I met her at a festival in Bodega Bay and was attracted to the antique button pins and many other pieces.  Fortunately she just sent me a postcard listing some festivals where she will have a booth.  Click this link for the list of Festivals and shows.  I am intrigued by the Festival named Vintage Days Crafts Faire and wonder if it's worth making a trip to Fresno, CA.  If you have ever been please leave me a comment.  I am also curious about the San Ramon Art and Wind Festival.  I'm wondering if this is a windy event.  I'm picturing the art blowing all around.  Or, maybe it's installation art that uses the motion of the wind.  But then how can you predict a windy festival?    It's probably just a typo but I'd rather think about an Art and Wind festival than investigate it.
