Jane Austen movies last weekend, KB enjoyed these!

I recommend both of these movies.  I watched then with my daughter last week end.  First, we watched the Jane Austen Book Club.  One of those interwoven story lines with interesting people all coming together to share the Jane Austen books.  There is plenty of drama in this one--some happy, some sexy and some sad.  I love the actors in this movie. It features the elegant Jimmy Smits in a not-so-elegant role and a blond Maria Bello are some of my favorites in the Jane Austen Book Club. Of course this movie is even better if you get the JA references.  Hopefully you have read at least one of her books?  If not, add one to your summer reading list.  You will not be disappointed!  Reading JA is not pre-requisite for this enjoyable film.

Next, we watched Becoming Jane, my daughter loved this one.  She watched it twice while we rented it.  I thought it was great. Anne Hathaway looks stunning and so does the handsome James McAvoy.  I'm starting to like everything I've seen with James McAvoy.  This film is based on Jane's life as a woman living by her pen.  It surely was uncommon in her day.  It's a fascinating story, a love story, and it keeps getting better towards the end.  I highly recommend this film.  So move them to the top of your netflix queue!

I voted today!  I handed in my absentee ballot at the polling place and got my sticker.  That was easy.

I finally set up my youTube channel.  I haven’t made any videos yet but I have some ideas for them.  Here's the link.

In the meantime I’m adding Favorites to my channel including this one.  I’m looking for elegant videos without cheesy music.  I like videos that entertain, inspire and reminisce. And they should be pretty. It takes time to dig them up since many of the you tube videos are silly and bad- that’s bad in a lame way.  If you come across any videos that you think I might enjoy leave me a comment here.  You can check my channel to see my taste.  Enjoy!

Atonement, the motion picture, it's extremely good, KB recommends this one!

This movie is as good as it gets. A tangled love story, superb actors and textured cinamatography. I loved this film! The emerald green dress in the library scene is dazzling as worn by Cecilia Tallis's character. The costume design is elegant, sensual and maybe a bit more risque than my costume history studies would have documented --but so what? And Robbie Turner is very attractive in his sublimely cut tuxedo. I've had some pictures up in my side bar of Winsome Gardens. The gardens in this film remind me of these but on a much grander scale. The director uses the cinamatography to weave the scenes together, sometimes lingering and moving back and forth between images in a way that keeps you totally engaged. I am so glad I saw this award worthy movie because it's so rare for me to actually catch the good ones on the big screen. I hope you take my recommendation and see this one!

Be sure to catch the T.V. Premiere of Tom Petty's Runnin Down a Dream.  As mentioned here- It's a winner! I think the DVD would make a great gift too.

After the Wedding- a film well done- KB recommends

I recently watched a beautiful film called "After the Wedding"  The story made me laugh and cry and I totally admired the people in the movie.  Some of it takes place in India but a good deal of it is in Denmark.  This makes me feel proud of my Danish heritage (on my mother's side)  The skylines, the scenery, the home, the decor, the clothing and the faces are all very striking.  Here's a still shot of Sidse Babett Knudsen and Mads Mikkelsen in a scene. The family secrets are intriguing.  This is a foreign film that deserved the recognition and awards.  KB recommends highly. 

A Good Woman- recommend, elegant ~E+

I have the back to school cold. Good thing or else I would not have sat down today to watch a movie in the middle of the afternoon. This is my first time to try the movie download included in my Netflix membership. It was fast and easy and I chose an old release. It's a romantic comedy called A Good Woman. It's set in Almafi coast in Italy and it starred Helen Hunt , Scarlett Johansson and Mark Umbers. The story has interesting twists as written by Oscar Wilde. The acting was great. The 1930's costumes were oh so elegant ~E+. Art deco hats, gloves, bias cut dresses, flowing gowns, 2 tone shoes, suspenders on the gents- very glamorous! Recommend!
